This is the layout of a flour plant we built for a biscuit manufacturer: flour arrives by bulk tanker, is stored in silos and conveyed to filter receivers above the process lines.

India’s largest biscuit maker
Scorpio built a 10 TPH bulk tanker unloading system feeding two 80-tonne flour silos on load cells. Flour is conveyed at 4 TPH with dehumidified air to four filter receivers above the process, with a standby blower and PLC and SCADA control.
Large dairy cooperative
Scorpio supplied dense phase conveying for whole and skimmed milk powder at 4 TPH, moving the powder gently at low velocity to protect its quality.
Global food and beverage group
Scorpio supplied a 6 TPH dense phase conveying system for tea powder, moving it slowly in dense slugs so the leaf is not broken down.
Leading packaged foods company
For food contact duty, Scorpio builds hoppers, rotary valves and filter receivers in stainless steel, with quick-release clamps for easy cleaning.
Coffee roaster, South India
Scorpio conveys green coffee beans at 5 TPH in dilute phase, through a 10-way diverter, into a 90 m³ bolted silo with ten compartments, each with its own ultrasonic level sensor and pneumatic slide gate. The compartments discharge into a weigh hopper on load cells, so blends are batched by weight, and each batch is conveyed 26 m back to the process line. Scorpio designed, built, erected and commissioned the complete system, including the silo structure, Roots blower, rotary airlock, bag filter and VFD panel.

Yes. A Roots blower pressurises the tanker and conveys the flour pneumatically into the storage silos through a closed pipeline, with no bags and no manual handling.
We dry the conveying air with a dehumidifier before it reaches the blower, so the flour does not pick up moisture. Bin activators at the silo outlets keep it flowing.
Flour and sugar are usually conveyed in dilute phase with a Roots blower. Fragile or high-value powders such as milk powder and tea are better suited to dense phase, which moves them slowly and gently.
Yes. Green coffee beans are hard and free flowing, and are conveyed in dilute phase with a Roots blower and rotary airlock. Roasted beans are brittle, so we convey them in dense phase, slowly, to avoid breakage. A multi-compartment silo with a slide gate under each compartment and a weigh hopper on load cells lets you keep different beans or roasts apart and batch blends by weight.
Yes. Hoppers, rotary valves, filter receivers and other food contact parts can be built in stainless steel, with quick-release clamps for cleaning.
Yes. Heavy duty diverters route each conveying line to filter receivers above several mixers or process lines, controlled from the PLC.
